Est-ce un coup de chance, ce petit mail de Lucky Striker201 dans ma boîte email ? Voilà un groupe qui a choisi une démarche originale en proposant de télécharger intégralement leur 1er album éponyme en format MP3 à partir de leur site officiel.
Tout de suite, un flash se met à clignoter dans mes neurones houblonnisés : voilà un groupe qui essaye d'écouler sa daube facilement en jouant sur la tentation de Faust autrement dit la gratuité du produit? ? ?
Et bien il me faut très vite réviser cet a priori car ce que j'ai téléchargé, c'est de la bombe !
Me voilà instantanément détenteur d'un album d'electro Rock très heavy tout de même où l'on remarque le savant dosage entre le chant death et un chant beaucoup plus groovy ou chuchoté malsainement.
Ainsi Burn, Burn, Burn sur une base mid tempo plutôt old school se termine par un déferlement ravageur death qui donne la chair de poule ; et du groove, on en trouve à la pelle sur A Liquid Blue Quest
Je ne suis pas au bout de mes surprises quand se lancent les premières mesures de Ocean Theology sur un rythme techno rock qui n'est pas sans rappeler le Billy Idol de la grande époque notamment par le chant mais aussi le son et le jeu de basse très 80'S.
Les samplers de claviers sont très présents mais jamais surabondants et se mélent très judicieusement avec les riffs de grattes tranchants comme des lames de rasoirs. Une large place est faite à l'electro mais cet apport ne dénature jamais l'aspect heavy rock du CD.
Décidément le chant de Caedes Akirohan est réellement envoûtant (influencé par MM ?) et je vous conseille d'écouter Dawn, qui me donne l'impression d'être devenu acteur du projet Blair Witch, pour en prendre toute la mesure quand il est posé sur une basse aussi entêtante que sur ce titre.
La variété des compos et des atmosphères n'est pas sans me rappeler Opeth ou Porcupine Tree car LS201 donne l'impression de savoir traiter toutes les tendances du metal témoin « Insane » ce titre très atmos et planant sur sa première partie qui s'alourdit brusquement par la suite et recréée parfaitement une ambiance démente.
La production (mixage par Serge Begnis aux Update Studio de Salernes excepté les samples par Caedes Akirohan au TempleBar201, de Dublin (IRL) et mastérisé à l'Autre Studio de Paris) est très soignée, créative et n'est pas linéaire. Ainsi la batterie sonne différemment suivant les titres avec parfois des accents de boîte à rythme. On sent que le groupe a beaucoup travaillé sur les sonorités pour générer des atmosphères différentes sur chaque morceau même si la tendance générale est plutôt ElectroDark et Mid tempo.
K. est incroyable d'énergie avec des riffs de grattes tour à tour très nerveux ou plus doomesques sur lesquels sont posés toutes les variantes vocales que le combo est capable d'imaginer, ce titre m'a vraiment bluffé !
La fin de l'album est plus anecdotique avec 2 titres beaucoup plus linéaires mais lourdingues à souhait.
Il est certainement trop tôt pour le dire mais cet opus sera certainement en bonne place dans ceux qui m'auront marqué à l'heure de faire les comptes en fin d'année.
En tous cas, vu le choix fait par le groupe de permettre son écoute au plus grand nombre, faites crépiter d'urgence les Ko de votre connexion pour découvrir cet « incontournable » de ce début d'année.

Here is a band which chose an original step while proposing to completely download to them 1st eponym album in MP3 starting from their official site. Immediately, a flash starts to flicker in my houblonnized neurons: here is a band which tries to easily run out its stew by exploiting the temptation of Faust in other words the exemption from payment of the product? And well it is necessary for me very quickly to revise this a priori because what I downloaded, it is bomb! Here me is instantaneously holder of an album of magnet Rock'n'roll very heavy all the same where one notices the scientist proportioning between the song death and a song much more groovy or whispered malsainement. Thus Burn, Burn, Burn on a basis mid tempo rather old school ends in a devastating surge death which gives the goose flesh; and of the groove, one finds some with the shovel on A Liquid Blue Quest I am not at the end of my surprises when the first measurements of Theology Ocean launch out on a rate/rhythm techno rock'n'roll which is not without pointing out Billy Idol of the great time in particular by the song but also the sound and the play of low very 80' S. The samplers of keyboards are very present but never superabundant and mélent themselves very judiciously with the riffs of scrape sharp like razor blades. A broad place is made with the magnet but this contribution never denatures the aspect heavy rock'n'roll of CD. Definitely the song of Caedes Akirohan is really envoûtant (influenced per MM?) and I advise you to listen to Dawn, which gives the impression to me to have become actor of the project Blair Witch, to take all measurement of it when it is posed on low as a entêtante as on this title. The variety of the compos and the atmospheres is not without me to point out Opeth or Porcupine Tree bus LS201 gives the impression to know to very treat all the tendencies of the metal pilot "Insane" this title atmos and planing on its first part which is weighed down abruptly thereafter and recreated perfectly a lunatic environment. The production (mixing by Serge Begnis in Update Studio of Salernes except the samples by Caedes Akirohan in TempleBar201, of Dublin (IRL) and masterized with the Other Studio of Paris) is very neat, creative and is not linear. Thus the battery sounds differently according to the titles with sometimes accents of box at rate/rhythm. It is felt that the group worked much on sonorities to generate different atmospheres on each piece even if the general tendency is rather ElectroDark and Mid tempo. K is incredible of energy with riffs of scrape in turn very nervous or doomesques on which are posed all the vocal alternatives than the combo is able to imagine, this title really bluffé me! The end of the album is more anecdotic with 2 titles much linear but lourdingues with wish. It is certainly too early for the statement but this opus will be certainly in good place in those which will have marked me per hour to make the accounts at the end of the year. considering the choice made by the band allow its listening the greatest number, made crépiter urgently KB of your connection to discover this of this beginning of year. 5 stars 17.0/20

Je ne voudrais pas passer pour ce que je ne suis pas: un spécialiste du métal Indus. Cependant, je possède quelques références qui m'auront permis d'appréhender le premier album de LUCKY STRIKER 201. Pour situer un peu le combo, il s'agit à l'origine du projet d'un seul homme, l'énigmatique Caedes Akirohan. Il a réalisé tout seul ses deux premières démos, " Cosmognosis " et " Night Room ", qui ont commencé à faire circuler le paquet de LUCKY comme une clope de bonne qualité, riche en saveurs de tabacs prisées autant par les métalleux que par les goths et les technoïdes.
Sur cet album, il s'offre les services de plusieurs compagnons de scène, à savoir Sylvicious, (batteur de PUNISH YOURSELF svp !) et WBR à la basse.
La caisse claire, bien claquante et réverbérée, ne trompe pas: le métal de LUCKY STRIKER 201 se veut orienté gothique et sombre, réminiscence de la cold-wave de la fin des années 80. Ainsi, on reconnaît le style de RAMMSTEIN, référence incontournable du métal indus sur " Ocean Theology ", tube en puissance de l'album qui fera danser dans les batcaves avec son refrain syncopé et ses nappes lancinantes (ainsi que " K " et " The Werewolf Metaphor ") On sent tout au long de l'album la volonté de Caedes, leader et architecte du projet, d'une véritable recherche sonore sans négliger pour autant la composition de titres percutants et efficaces. Tout en talonnant la sensualité de Trent Reznor (NINE INCH NAILS), il transforme sa voix pour en faire quelque chose d'inhumain, cyborg guidant ses troupes sur des terres dévastées.
Il affectionne tout autant les ambiances atmosphériques hypnotiques comme en témoigne " Insane " et va jusqu'à trafiquer un djembé sur l'interlude " Papersnake ". Rien de totalement neuf en soi dans le monde du goth métal, où le tribal (DEAD CAN DANCE par exemple) est monnaie courante face à l'électro.
La production et la recherche sonore, si elles sont parfaitement maîtrisées et de grande qualité, ne se posent donc pas comme innovantes. Là où il faut saluer le groupe, c'est dans sa faculté à perpétuer et mélanger des atmosphères appréciées dans le microcosme gothique, c'est-à-dire des riffs saturés amples et fédérateurs, des ambiances mélancoliques et hypnotiques et du son « dancefloor» électro-indus.
Là où le disque pêche, c'est au niveau du chant, le mot n'étant pas le terme exact. Caedes ne semble jamais tout à fait chanter, et sa voix est tellement couverte par les effets que l'on en perd un peu le fil. Il ne s'agit plus que de figuration au milieu des compositions, et lorsqu'elle est trop omniprésente, on regrette un manque d'inspiration dans les mélodies vocales et dans le songwriting (bien que peu propre à ce style il est vrai.) L'album apparaît inégal de ce point de vue, certains morceaux ressortant particulièrement lorsque le chant a su s'y adapter et d'autres paraissant un peu fades à côté. Caedes puise beaucoup à NINE INCH NAILS mais il n'a malheureusement pas (encore) le charisme et le talent de composition vocal de sa source, et se contente plus souvent de chuchoter ou de parler, ce qui rend l'album difficilement accessible aux non-initiés.
Quoi qu'il en soit, on ne fume pas du foin avec les LUCKY STRIKER. Le mélange finit par révéler sa saveur au bout de quelques écoutes. Vu la teneur en agents efficaces de la cigarette, elle devrait rendre accro dans le milieu gothique auquel elle semble un peu réservée...
De toute façon, cher toxico, sache que LUCKY propose son premier album en téléchargement intégral et gratuit sur son site, et ça, ça ne te tuera pas !

I would not like to pass for what I am not: a specialist in Indus metal. However, I have some references which will have enabled me to apprehend the first album of LUCKY STRIKER 201. To locate the combo a little, it is a question in the beginning of the project of only one man, enigmatic Caedes Akirohan. It carried out all alone its the first two demonstrations, "Cosmognosis" and "Night Room", which started to make circulate the package of LUCKY like a cig of good quality, rich in savours of tobaccos appraisals as much by the métalleux ones that by the goths and the technoïdes. On this album, it offers the services of several companions of scene, namely Sylvicious, (drummer of PUNISH YOURSELF please!) and WBR with low. The case clear, well claquante and reverberated, do not mislead: the metal of LUCKY STRIKER 201 wants to be directed Gothic and sinks, reminiscence of the cold-wave of the end of the Eighties. Thus, one recognizes the style of RAMMSTEIN, reference impossible to circumvent of metal undue money on "Ocean Theology", tube in power of the album which will make dance in the batcaves with its syncopated refrain and his throbbing tablecloths (like "K" and "The Werewolf Metaphor") One feels throughout the album the will of Caedes, leader and architect of the project, a true sound research without neglecting for as much the composition of percussion and effective titles. While pursuing the sensuality of the Trent Reznor (NINE INCH NAILS), it transforms its voice to do something of inhuman of it, cyborg guiding its troops on devastated grounds. It affectionne as much hypnotic atmospheric environments as "Insane testifies some" and goes until adulterating one djembé on the interlude "Papersnake". Nothing completely nine in oneself in the world of the goth metal, where tribal (DEAD EDGE DANCE for example) is current currency vis-a-vis electro. The production and sound research, if they are controlled perfectly and of great quality, are thus not posed like innovating. Where the group should be greeted, it is in its faculty to be perpetuated and mix atmospheres appreciated in Gothic microcosm, i.e. saturated riffs full and federator, environments melancholic persons and hypnotic and sound "dancefloor" electro-undue money. Where the disc fishes, it is on the level of the song, the word not being the exact term. Caedes never seems completely to sing, and its voice is covered so much by the effects that one loses of it a little the wire. It himself be more only about figuration to medium of composition, and when it be too omnipresent, one regret a lack of inspiration in the melody vocal and in the songwriting (although not very clean with this style it be true.) The album appears unequal from this point of view, certain pieces arising particularly when the song knew to adapt to it and others appearing a little insipid at side. Caedes draws much with NINE INCH NAILS but it does not have unfortunately the charisma and the vocal talent of composition of its source, and is more often satisfied to whisper or of speaking, which makes the album difficult to reach to the uninitiated persons. At all events, one does not smoke of the hay with LUCKY STRIKER. The mixture ends up revealing its savour at the end of some listenings. Considering the content of effective agents of the cigarette, it should return accro in the Gothic medium for which it seems held a little... In any event, expensive toxico, knows that LUCKY proposes its first album in integral and free remote loading on its site, and that, that will not commit suicide!
